This week Holly, the Activity Coordinator at Hutton Manor, hosted a ‘Get to know you’ activity where residents brought along their family photos and albums to share with the group.’
“It was an excellent way to introduce our new community members and share fond memories of the past”, said Holly.
“We learnt many things about each other, including where we all grew up, family life, holidays, and achievements.”
Reminiscence activities such as these are useful in maintaining one’s identity by recalling certain events and expressing emotions that contribute to positive mental health.
Additionally, these activities can reduce depression and improve communication, which is a massive benefit to fitting in and feeling more welcome for newer residents.
The residents all enjoyed this activity; it encouraged them to share stories and to get to know each other.
