Here at Southlands we are currently strengthening our relationships within the village in order to raise our profile and engage with local groups.

We are also developing our activities programme to enable our residents to further build relationships within the community, for example with the local primary school.

As part of these initiatives we entered the “Doorstep Challenge” category of “Hutton Cranswick in Bloom”; this years theme was “100 years of votes for women”.

We planted up an old small white-painted chest of drawers, with flowers in the suffragette colours of white, purple and green and made a scarecrow with a flower for a face – to symbolise women not having a voice.

Amazingly we won first prize! We received a certificate and were presented with an engraved cup at the village show in July.
